THIS IS A MORE WINTERY SAMPLE of my Alpine Aster Shawlette, a small shawl that features a textured lace stitch reminiscent of alpine aster, one of the Rocky Mountains’ emblematic early summer wildflowers. Drape it over your shoulders on breezy summer nights or wrap it around your neck like a scarf on frosty winter days.

I made the sample above with Wool and Palette’s non-SW Fingering in Fern, which I picked up at Sacred Sheep in Portland, Oregon. Emily naturally dyes her yarn, and she does several washes to get deeper and deeper colors. I loved seeing how wool from different sheep breeds took color differently, as well as the shades Emily creates from varying how many dye baths she gives a particular yarn. This yarn was dyed from Weld (a dye plant that produces a bright yellow) + Logwood (an extract from the heartwood of logwood trees that creates blues to red-purples). Can you believe these two together make up this rich and gorgeous green?!?
